An ultra-low emission zone discourages people to drive in areas such as such because a fee is charged for entering the zone. This allows for the reduction of the pollutants released in the environment and helps to maintain the air quality index. An ultra-low emission zone operates throughout the year 24/7, with the exception of Christmas (25 December).

However, not all vehicles are charged a fee. Any vehicle that emits 75g/km of CO2 or less is allowed to move inside the zone charge-free. Therefore, pure electric vehicles, electric range-extender vehicles, and plug-in hybrids are not charged for entering a ULEZ.

In addition to this, the congestion charges act as a daily tariff. Therefore, you can re-enter the area as many times as you want. A small note towards the end, there is no way of finding out if you were charged for a congestion zone entry or not. To avoid a ticket and a heavy fine, set up autopay.

Happy Driving to You!
